I have an exciting update to provide residents of Ward 20 with today concerning some new developments related to the future Hard Rock.

On Tuesday afternoon I was honoured to attend the official ground-breaking ceremony at the location of the Future Hard Rock Hotel & Casino located at the Rideau-Carleton Raceway. There were many esteemed guests in attendance at the ground-breaking including MPPs Lisa MacLeod and Goldie Ghamari, Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, Councillor Steve Desroches, Duncan Hannay and Jim Warren of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, Jon Lucas of Hard Rock International, as well as Helen MacMillan, Andrew Wright, and Richard Gardner of Rideau-Carleton Raceway. It was also a pleasure to see Karen Gordon at the groundbreaking.

I also want to give special recognition to the Armstrong family, and to the late Warren Armstrong, the Owner and President of the Rideau-Carleton Raceway. Warren founded the track in 1962 and the work that he did to create and operate the Rideau-Carleton Raceway set the stage for this announcement today.

It was an amazing occasion to finally have a ground-breaking to begin the process for Hard Rock construction. There have been a lot of setbacks due to pandemic supply chain disruptions, but we have finally made it. This project will be an extremely great addition to not only Ward 20, but the City of Ottawa as a whole. This will bring brand recognition and tourism opportunities to Ward 20 and the City of Ottawa, and will also bring hundreds of direct jobs, alongside hundreds of indirect construction-related jobs.

For those wondering about the project details, there will be a 150-room Hard Rock hotel, an expanded casino featuring live tables and sportsbooks, an 1800 seat theatre, and more than 10 restaurants including the Hard Rock Café. These will be major tourism attractions and will welcome tourists to the area of some of our great local businesses. The completion of the hotel is expected for Spring 2025.

I want to give my thanks to community organizations such as the Greely Community Association, Osgoode Ward Business Association, Osgoode Ward Advisory Committee, and other community leaders for their work in recent years that has led up to this moment. I know that this has taken a long time and residents have been asking for updates, so I am extremely excited to announce that completion will be coming in the near future.

Mardi après-midi, j'ai eu l'honneur d'assister à la cérémonie officielle d'inauguration des travaux sur le site du futur Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, situé sur l'hippodrome Rideau-Carleton. De nombreux invités de marque étaient présents, notamment les députés provinciaux Lisa MacLeod et Goldie Ghamari, le conseiller Steve Desroches, Duncan Hannay et Jim Warren de la Société des loteries et des jeux de l'Ontario, Jon Lucas de Hard Rock International, ainsi que Helen MacMillan, Andrew Wright et Richard Gardner de l'hippodrome Rideau-Carleton. J'ai également eu le plaisir de voir Karen Gordon à la cérémonie d'inauguration.

Je tiens également à remercier tout particulièrement la famille Armstrong et feu Warren Armstrong, propriétaire et président de l'hippodrome Rideau-Carleton. Warren a fondé la piste en 1962 et le travail qu'il a accompli pour créer et exploiter l'hippodrome Rideau-Carleton a préparé le terrain pour l'annonce d'aujourd'hui.

Ce fut une occasion extraordinaire de voir enfin les pelleteuses creuser le sol pour entamer le processus de construction du Hard Rock. Il y a eu beaucoup de contretemps en raison des perturbations de la chaîne d'approvisionnement dues à la pandémie, mais nous y sommes finalement parvenus. Ce projet sera un atout majeur non seulement pour le quartier 20, mais aussi pour la ville d'Ottawa dans son ensemble. Il apportera une reconnaissance de la marque et des opportunités touristiques au quartier 20 et à la ville d'Ottawa, et créera des centaines d'emplois directs, ainsi que des centaines d'emplois indirects liés à la construction.

Pour ceux qui s'interrogent sur les détails du projet, il y aura un hôtel Hard Rock de 150 chambres, un casino agrandi avec des tables de jeu et des paris sportifs, un théâtre de 1 800 places et plus de 10 restaurants, dont le Hard Rock Café. Il s'agira d'attractions touristiques majeures qui accueilleront les touristes dans la région de certaines de nos grandes entreprises locales. L'achèvement de l'hôtel est prévu pour le printemps 2025.

Je tiens à remercier les organisations communautaires telles que la Greely Community Association, l'Osgoode Ward Business Association et l'Osgoode Ward Advisory Committee pour le travail qu'elles ont accompli ces dernières années et qui nous a permis d'arriver à ce stade. Je sais que cela a pris beaucoup de temps et que les habitants ont demandé des mises à jour, c'est pourquoi je suis extrêmement heureux d'annoncer que les travaux seront achevés dans un avenir proche.
