Please note that due to the Covid-19 Pandemic the Councillor's Awards were cancelled and the 2020 -2021 Awards were presented November 2021

 

Community Appreciation Award 

“To recognize and honour residents who have made a significant contribution to ensuring others have the opportunity to become active and involved.” 

This is awarded to individuals as a show of appreciation for their contribution to the community in the past year.  

 

Award Criteria

During these unprecedented times of COVID-19, we understand there will be many volunteers out supporting their neighbours, family and community where they can.

As this is a very unusual situation, the Councillor’s Annual Community Awards criteria has been adjusted accordingly to accept nominations for those outstanding individuals in the community that does not require the nominated individual be volunteering for the last year.

Please look around and see who you can nominate as a group, family or individual that you believe is eligible for one of the 5 Awards and email your submission to Jane.Diraimo@ottawa.ca.  We will follow up with each submission

To nominate someone, you must submit: 

  • ● A (brief paragraph of 250 words or less)/(short essay of 800 words or less) must be submitted as to why they would be a suitable recipient, citing examples from the past year primarily 
  • ● 1-2 letters of recommendation from someone or an organization that has been positively affected by the nominee’s efforts  

 

Community Youth Award 

“To recognize and honour outstanding Youths who have made a significant contribution ensuring residents, especially Youths, are active and involved in community activities.” 

Nominees must: 

  • ● Be under the age of 20 
  • ● Have volunteered for a significant amount of time within the community  
  • ● Inspired others, especially other youths, to take on their own active role within the community 

To nominate someone, you must submit: 

  • ● A (brief paragraph of 250 words or less)/(short essay of 800 words or less) as to why they would be a suitable recipient 
  • ● 1-2 letters of recommendation from someone or an organization that has been positively affected by the nominee’s efforts  

 

Small Business Commendation Award 

“In recognition of a small business that has made significant contributions ensuring residents have opportunities to become active and involved in our Community” 

Nominees must: 

  • ● Have less than 40 paid employees 
  • ● Been in operation for at least 6 months 
  • ● Contributed efforts to make residents of the community more involved  
  • ● Donated time and/or money to bettering the community i.e.:  sponsoring a local sports team, donating food to a community breakfast, helping to set up a community event, etc. 

To nominate someone, you must submit: 

  • ● A (brief paragraph of 250 words or less)/ (short essay of 800 words or less) as to why they would be a suitable recipient 
  • ● 1-2 letter of recommendation from someone or an organization that has been positively affected by the nominee’s efforts  

 

The Kay Johnston Outstanding Community Service Award 

“This award, established in 2006, is presented annually for outstanding volunteer contributions to our Community and residents in Osgoode Ward” 

Nominees must: 

  • ● Have positively impacted the community by actively volunteering within the community throughout their time living in the Ward 
  • ● Helped provide opportunities for others to get involved in volunteer efforts 
  • ● Demonstrated outstanding commitment to helping others through their work over the years 

To nominate someone, you must submit: 

  • ● A (brief paragraph of 250 words or less)/(short essay of 800 words or less) as to why they would be a suitable recipient 
  • ● 1-2 letters of recommendation from someone or an organization that has been positively affected by the nominee’s efforts  

 

H.R. (Dick) McLaughlin Memorial Senior Award 

“In recognition of outstanding Seniors who have made a significant contribution ensuring Seniors are able to stay active and involved in Osgoode Ward”.

Nominees must: 

  • ● Be over the age of 60 
  • ● Have volunteered for a significant amount of time within the community relating to, primarily but not limited to, helping provide other seniors with a way to stay active and involved 
  • ● Inspired others, especially seniors, to take on their own active role within the community 

To nominate someone, you must submit:

  • ● A (brief paragraph of 250 words or less)/(short essay of 800 words or less) as to why they would be a suitable recipient 
  • ● 1-2 letters of recommendation from someone or an organization that has been positively affected by the nominee’s
