Construction Begins for the New Amazon Fullfillment Centre

It was an honour and privilege to be part of the ground breaking ceremony for new fulfillment centre today! Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Mayor Jim Watson along with many council colleagues and myself gathered at Boundary Road and Highway 417 site to mark the first day of construction. This facility will be a warehouse that handles package and delivery of items such as house décor, sporting equipment, and gardening tools. It was nice to see representatives from all levels of government and some international ambassadors come out and support the development.

Since my first day in office, I have been dedicated to job creation and opportunity building in the rural area, which is why I have advocated and supported this development from the beginning. The facility will bring 600 permanent middle-class jobs with benefits, and will create over 1500 jobs in 30 different trades during the construction phase alone.

Opportunities for job creation and economic boosts are the key to revitalizing the south end of the City of Ottawa. I hope to see more economic opportunities from international companies that benefit the public!

See here for my comments on this development when it was first announced last month.
