Week in Review!

Ottawa Soccer United International Soccer Tournament
The soccer fields were full at George Nelms Park in Manotick this past weekend! Teams not only from all over Canada but from as far away as Brazil were playing their best to bring home the medals. I was honoured to be apart of the medal presentations for teams from Montreal, Durham, Muskoka, and Kitchener. These teams worked hard, playing in extreme temperatures, and managed to take home the gold and silver medals at the end of the tournament. Many of the participants were first-time visitors to the park, and remarked on how the facility had “dream” soccer fields! Very nice comments to hear about our fields and a big compliment to the City of Ottawa!

Open Door
Resuming Open Door this week was a great step back into routine for the Ward office after our two weeks of holidays. It was nice to have a special drop-in by Eleanor McEvoy and her daughter; they received a letter from Mayor Watson and the commemorative flag from the City of Ottawa that flew at the Metcalfe Town Hall until her husband, Phil McEvoy, passed away in June. Eleanor was touched to receive the flag, saying it was gentle reminder of Phil and all his years of hard work as a Councillor for the former Osgoode Township and would have a special place in their home. She also received a copy of my speech given at Council for the moment of silence held in his memory.

The rest of the Open Door rolled along nicely with several other residents stopping by and glad to see the Open Door had resumed.  See you next Tuesday from 1-5pm at the Metcalfe Town Hall!

Findlay Creek Community Association Annual Family Fun Day
What a great turn out we had for the annual Findlay Creek Family Fun Day at the Diamond Jubilee Park this past Monday! The heat did not stop the community from coming out to enjoy the many booths offering everything from hotdogs, cotton candy, and snow cones. We even handed out freezies at my booth to help everyone keep cool while they enjoyed the splash pad and music from Spencer Scharf and Jump 106.9. Mayor Watson also stopped by to support the day and check out all the exciting activities! I want to thank the Findlay Creek Community Association for putting on such a great event every year and inviting us out to take part in the fun!

The City’s Election-Related Resources Policy prohibits Members of Council who are seeking re-election in a municipal election from using their office budgets to sponsor newsletters, advertisements, flyers or householders during the 60-day period leading up to and including Voting Day, with very few exceptions. In order to comply with the ERRP, I will not be issuing any newsletters between August 23rd 2018 and October 22nd inclusively. Because of this, if you have an event you would like promoted in the next few newsletters, please send the information with a flyer to George.Darouze@ottawa.ca before August 17th so I can spread the word!

Reminder to about Dogs in Parks
Parks are a great place for families, friends, and pets to enjoy the outdoors. The Animal Care and Control By-law has different parks designated for dogs around the city under the Dogs-In-Parks Designation Policy. Most parks in the Osgoode Ward are “not designated”, which means dogs are allowed but must be on leash at all times. This policy is to provide a pleasant and safe environment for dogs to exercise, while keeping in consideration the safety of other park users. To see a map of where you can bring your dog to roam freely, see here!
